I finally finished the images of my 3 night "expedition" to the Castle of Westerlo. With the hottest night at -10ºC, it was quite a challange. I still didn't buy a portable power source and the batteries of the D700 were usually drained in less then an hour. The battery of the NEX-5 managed quite well... This was also the first time that I simultaneously shot with the D700 and the NEX-5: the D700 for star trails and the NEX-5 for panoramics (I played with a Yashica ML 28mm f/2.8 and a CZJ Tessar 50mm f/3.5).
You can see the complete gallery on my website. Some of the panoramic images are available up to 1400px. A preview:
80 images of 30s (D700)
Panoramic stitch of 9 images (D700)
Panoramic stitch of 7 images (NEX-5)
92 images of 30s (D700)
The complete gallery can be seen here.
I will continue to shoot with both cameras at the same time, the Nikon for star trails and the NEX-5 for panoramic images. Using the NEX-5 for night photography isn't easy though... The lack of a decent viewfinder is definitely a disadvantage. But hey, we managed to get our shot ;)
